Hiking With Gadget Girl

It's All About The Adventure!

Wowie, was it cold this morning! 28 degrees. I think we are going to need more winter clothing soon.

I almost wore my down jacket starting out, it was that cold. We didn't strip down to our regular hiking gear for a few hours. Meanwhile, we saw another moose! Whee! She saw us the same time we saw her and she took off running. Thankfully away from us.

We only had six miles to get to Cottonwood Pass this morning and pick up our next three day resupply from Dave. Right after we saw the moose, we had to ford a river. No way were we getting our socks and shoes wet so early in the freezing cold morning, so took them off and put on our flip flops. Aack, was that water COLD.

We were making little squeeky noises by the time we crossed to the other side. Took a few minutes for the numbing effect to wear off. As we hiked upward with Linda in the lead, I heard a scream ahead. I rushed as fast as I could thinking I could help battle whatever confronted her, and when I arrived, there was this woman hiker who had been intently listening to her audiobook with her head down and didn't see Linda standing to the side of the trail until she was within a foot of her. So the other gal screamed, not Linda. After she calmed down, we had a nice chat about the trail and various other topics. Said our goodbyes and continued on our way. Broke out of the trees into a 360 degree view of beautiful mountains. We knew we were getting near the top when we could see the steep trail ahead to the pass. Hoowee, it was steep.

Step by step, we arrived at the top and could see the highway and parking area where Dave was meeting us.

Marched right over and settled in to wait for him. Fifteen minutes later Dave arrives and has brought us delicious Subway sandwiches for lunch. Because it was so windy and cold at the top, we decide to drive off the top and find a calm place to resupply. Oops, our resupply is missing one critical piece so we ended up driving back to Buena Vista to get it. While we're in town we might as well make it a "nero day" (meaning, hike part of the day, but not a full zero). That is the reason that I have been able to update you, our faithful followers, on our past three days. We leave again early tomorrow morning and continue on from Cottonwood Pass and head south. Oh, I forgot to mention! We passed the 200 mile mark yesterday!! We're almost halfway done...
