It's All About The Adventure!
Aug 3, 2022 Wonderland Trail: A fantastic opportunity arose last spring when friend Karen won a prized lottery spot to hike the 93 mile Wonderland Trail around Mt Rainier. I was honored to join Karen, her husband Jay, and Jayne in this amazing adventure. With this year's heavy snowfall in the Cascades, we waited with nervous energy all spring and early summer for the snow to melt. Many people bailed on their trips in July as there was still so much snowpack. Then a week of super hot weather in July arrived just in time to melt out most of the trail for our selected start date of August 3rd. Some do the trail in five to twelve days, we selected to do the maximum days of 14 days to fully absorb all that the Wonderland Trail could throw at us. Karen and Jay picked up our permit the day before so Jayne and I met them at the Cougar Rock Campground that night. On the morning of the 3rd, we dropped off their van at Longmire, loaded everything into Jayne's car and headed to our starting point at Box Canyon. We were so happy to get a parking space!
