Hiking With Gadget Girl

It's All About The Adventure!

08-10-22 Wonderland Trail:
Yay, Jay's donated airpad worked great last night! Perfect timing for a great sleep because we had a big uphill right out of the gate as we climbed up into Spray Park proper. The massive wildflower show distracted us from the sweat running down our faces, chest and backs as we clawed our way upwards toward the top.

There was snowpack to cross in various places and with melting snow comes hordes of mosquitoes wanting any part of exposed skin they can find. Slathered on Deet and put on headnet when I had to stop for water refill.

Speaking of headnets, Jay and Karen had netting shirts that kept the mosquitoes and biting flies at bay. Very cool, another item for Gadget Girl to buy! As we neared the top, we could see a fog bank chasing us uphill but never reached us. It was like sitting on a very beautiful island surrounded by white puffy clouds below. Finally at the top, Rainier and wildflowers were spectacular, even saw bears!

Spray Park is also reachable as a day hike out of Mowich Lake and the day hikers were taking advantage of it. It was very hard to leave the top and head down into the fog to our next camp at Eagles Roost.

But wait, there's more! After the long downhill and we were approaching Eagles Roost, there is a side trail where we dumped our packs and made our way to Spray Falls. We had to negotiate skinny logs over a rushing creek to peer at foggy Spray Falls but wow, it was worth it! Had a delightful misty spray that refreshed our hairdos and faces.

Back on the trail we found the side trail leading down to Eagles Roost. Interesting thing about Eagles Roost, it is built on a steep hillside and the seven campsites were carved out of that hillside. And yes, they put the toilet at the lowest end of the camp! Sheesh, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go and you don't want to spend five minutes getting there to make your deposit...
