We're alive! Yes, we made it through the night without a tree falling anywhere around us.
We actually slept in until 6:30am knowing we only had 7.2 miles to get to Hwy 114 where Dave was picking us up. Off we went rollercoasting the hills, me stopping frequently to eat the massive amount of tiny raspberries hanging off the bushes lining the trail. They were delicious!
At about five miles we ran into a Trail Angel named Apple. He lives in Gunnison and makes the daily trip out to where we were to hand out free Gatorade, water, and pop to thru hikers. We had quite an interesting discussion about how dry and boring this section was. He recommended we skip the next two sections as they were dryer than this section was and were just as boring, and to restart at the Eddysville trailhead. We were so excited! Yay! Let's skip the boring parts and move on to the good stuff. We thanked him for the information and continued on. We arrived at the trailhead where he had his ice chest full of beverages, but since we still had a lot of water, we passed on his goodies.
Then the trail turned into a dirt road and our nav app showed us that we would be on this dirt road until we reached Hwy 114. We immediately started ESP'ing Dave to rescue us from this boredom of road walking. And guesss what?? Our night in shining armor in his white Jeep and faithful dog Bella, had decided to drive up the dirt road to look for us and arrived one mile from Hwy 114, gathered us up and took us to Gunnison where the RV was stashed for seven days. What a guy! Love him to death....
