Hiking With Gadget Girl

It's All About The Adventure!

Made a stop in Susanville for breakfast and was surprised to see that we were the only ones wearing masks. The server said that Susanville had made the decision not to require masks as they didn't have any cases in their town. We still wore ours though when we paid the bill and made our way back to the vehicles. We were the only ones in the restaurant.

The trip down to Mammoth Lakes was very pleasant, was surprised how expensive gasoline was in a couple of places - Bridgeport was $4.15 a gal and Lee Vining was $4.39. Stopped and oohed and aaahed over Mono Lake.

Finally pulled into Mammoth Lakes and was desperate for a bathroom and all but one store did not allow public use. Subway allowed you to use their bathroom if you bought a sandwich. So we did! Mosied up to Mammoth Mountain as we had planned to spend the night in the truck at the 9,000 ft level to acclimate.

One thing led to another (mostly because of no bathroom facilities) and we left the top and headed to Lake Mary to seek a campground. That campground was full but found an open spot at Lake George.

A double bonus as it was a beautiful spot and it was at the 9,000 ft level. The campsites were built on the hillside but had level platforms to plop your tent on. I think we really lucked out as the place was packed. Did a final review of our packs and gear as we drive to Lone Pine and then up to Horseshoe Meadows tomorrow where we will hopefully spend the night to acclimate at the 10,000 ft level.
