Hiking With Gadget Girl

It's All About The Adventure!

Had a huge uphill this morning, 3,205 feet, so we left at 6am to beat the sun. The first part I did pretty well, but the second half of getting to Sallie Keyes Lakes was tough. I felt like I was bonking at every switchback. Stopped numerous times to eat something and drink my electrolyte beverage (NUUN). I definitely did not pack the right snacks for this trip. There were a lot of southbounders coming down from the lakes, most with fishing poles. Finally arrived at the lake where Seasoned Strider and Vicki had been waiting for me for awhile. The lakes were as beautiful as ever. Started up and over Selden Pass where we were greeted with the view of Marie Lake, big, blue, and gorgeous. Then the usual downhill adventure to Bear Creek where we waded across. Finally arrived at our selected campsite and it was already taken. Too bad because it was a beautiful site. Backtracked a bit to another campsite we had just passed. We heard thunder moving in and had a few sprinkles. Then the thunder got serious and it started to get cold and rainy. Oops, and me without my raingear (sent home at Bishop Pass resupply)...
