Up at 4:15am to prepare for 6am departure. You are probably wondering what takes us so long to get going in the morning. First off, it is COLD in the morning. Then there's the morning bathroom ritual, pulling things out of the bear canister and getting things back into their assigned pack pockets, eating breakfast (no coffee, sad face), brushing teeth, clothes changes, and then packing up gear and tent. Some people only eat an energy bar for breakfast but that wouldn't last me 30 minutes out of camp. I usually have a Ziploc bag of my favorite cereal with Nido powdered milk. Anything that has a scent needs to go into the bear canister at night, including toothpaste, sunscreen, bug spray, chapstick, even the cozy that can pick up scents from rehydrating dinners.

Today is Carole's last day of the trail. Tomorrow we say saynara to Pebbles and Hola to Vicki who will join us for the rest of the trip. It was a long, challenging day with another 3,130 ft gain over the top of Bishop Pass.

We did stop in Dusy Basin for a snack and admire the fantastic scenery. Mosquitoes galore though. Lots of Deet applied.

Over the top and dropped through the difficult downhill to Saddlerock Lake.

Lo and behold, there was Greg and Duane, and five minutes later here comes Vicki! We hadn't even taken our packs off. Made camp and it was still very windy and warm. Finished resupply, handed off garbage to the guys (who were happy to take it as it was lighter than our resupplies). I hope I have enough food this time as I didn't have enough calories the last section and was constantly hungry. Makes it hard to hike when one is thinking of food all the time.
