It was freezing cold this morning and we kept our thermals on a long time. It was a beautiful easy climb to the top of Mather Pass at 12,100 ft and we lounged around, again the only ones at the top. Felt weird.
It's amazing how flowers can grow anywhere they can find enough soil between rocks. When there's a will, there's a way...

Looking back from whence we came.

Mather Pass is named after the retired rich industrialist Stephen Mather who was the first administrator of the National Parks Service in 1917. We decided to make it a short day at 9.68 miles and arrived at Palisade Lakes at 2pm. It was a hot day and we were looking forward to sitting by the lake soaking our feet and other parts of the body.

Making our way to lower Palisade Lake where we will spend the night.

Lower Palisade Lake.

Because we arrived at our campsite early, we decided to take advantage of the lake and do some cleanup and lounging.

It was fun watching the local marmot nosing around our campsite checking us out.
