Knowing we were taking another short day before we diverted over Bishop Pass for another resupply, we didn't leave until 8am. Yep, that's late for us. We headed down the Golden Staircase and like the name, we had a lot of "staircasing" to do to get through this steep cliff section.
Looks like a beached whale...

Long way down to our next campsite in Le Conte Canyon.

We were routed through one downhill "staircase", moved over to another section and then down another set of "staircases". Waterfalls abounded through this section.

We haven't run across very many logs across the trail. This was one of the bigger ones that we couldn't go around.

The heat built up and by lunch it was plain hot. Two fast thru hikers passed us and the fellow was carrying his nine pound calico cat on the top of his pack, complete with black umbrella protecting the feline from the heat. He also had to carry all her food too. He said he couldn't leave her behind for five months so decided she was coming along for the ride. Wow.

Ranger Nessa stopped to say hello and we had a good visit. This is the third woman ranger we have seen this trip. Quite unusual to see so many on a Sierra trip. Apparently there were only wilderness rangers out and about this summer who do the major educating of the outdoor public. No law enforcement rangers were in the vicinity. Made camp in Le Conte Canyon where we will temporarily leave the PCT/JMT to hike over Bishop Pass tomorrow and meet up with our resupply guys Greg and Duane again.
